# Connect Claude Code

> Install the APIANT skills and register the APIANT MCP server in a Claude Code project with the command from Connect to Claude Code, sign in, update and uninstall.

The **Connect to Claude Code** dialog in your APIANT account menu gives you one command that downloads the APIANT skills into a project directory and registers the APIANT MCP server for that directory. It needs no API key, Node or npm. You sign in through your browser the first time Claude Code connects.

## Prerequisites

- An APIANT.ai account whose role has the **MCP Tools** permission. New accounts have it.
- Claude Code 2.1.157 or later, with the `claude` command on your `PATH`.
- A model with a context window of at least 1M tokens. The APIANT skills are only compatible with those models.
- On Mac or Linux, `curl` and `unzip`. On Windows, PowerShell, which is built in.
- A default browser on the same machine.

## Install

### 1. Open the dialog

1. Sign in at [app.apiant.ai](https://app.apiant.ai).
2. Open the account menu (your initials and name, top right).
3. Select **Connect to Claude Code**. The same item is in the account menu on the Assistant page.

**Connect to Claude Code** is in the lower part of the account menu.

### 2. Copy the command

The dialog shows the command for the operating system your browser reports. Select **Copy**.

The dialog shows the command and a note: restart Claude Code, approve the server once, and update by re-running only the download half.

### 3. Run it in the project directory

Open a terminal, change to the directory you want to use Claude Code in, and run the command.

On Mac and Linux:

```bash
$ cd ~/projects/acme-integrations
$ curl -fsSL 'https://app.apiant.ai/appPlugin/plugin.zip' -o /tmp/a.zip && unzip -oq /tmp/a.zip -d . && rm /tmp/a.zip && { claude mcp remove apiant-ai -s project 2>/dev/null; claude mcp add --transport http -s project apiant-ai https://mcp.apiant.ai/mcp; }
```

On Windows, the command is one line, `powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -EncodedCommand <base64>`, that runs the same steps as a PowerShell script. Paste it into Command Prompt or PowerShell.

| Part of the command | What it does |
|---|---|
| `curl ... plugin.zip` and `unzip -oq ... -d .` | Downloads the skills and unzips them into `./.claude/skills/`, overwriting older copies |
| `claude mcp remove apiant-ai -s project` | Removes an earlier registration, so the command can run twice without an "already exists" error |
| `claude mcp add --transport http -s project apiant-ai https://mcp.apiant.ai/mcp` | Registers the server named `apiant-ai` in `./.mcp.json` for this directory |

`claude mcp add` merges into an existing `.mcp.json` and leaves other servers in it alone.

### 4. Start Claude Code and approve the server

1. Run `claude` in the same directory, or restart Claude Code if it was already open there.
2. Approve the `apiant-ai` server when Claude Code asks about the project's MCP servers.

### 5. Sign in

1. Run `/mcp`, select `apiant-ai`, and choose to authenticate. Claude Code also shows a notice at startup when a server needs sign-in.
2. In the browser page that opens, sign in with your APIANT email and password, or **Continue with Google** or **Continue with GitHub**. If your email belongs to more than one organization, pick one. If your account uses two-factor authentication, enter the 6-digit code.
3. On **Authorize access**, check the application, the permissions listed and the account under **Signed in as**, then select **Allow**.
4. Return to Claude Code. `claude mcp list` shows the server as connected.

The sign-in page offers email and password, Google or GitHub, followed by the Authorize access step.

### 6. Check the install

Run `/apiant-setup` in Claude Code, or ask:

```text
Check that you're connected to APIANT.
```

## Where the install lives

Everything the command writes is inside the project directory:

- `./.claude/skills/`: the APIANT skills.
- `./.mcp.json`: the `apiant-ai` server entry.

The sign-in token is stored by Claude Code, not in the project. Each directory is a separate install: run the command again in every project directory where you want APIANT.

## Organization domains and tenant labels

The dialog builds the command for the account and address you opened it from, so always copy it from the dialog rather than from this page.

- If your organization has a tenant label, the command also registers the server with a `--header "X-APIANT-Tenant: ..."` option carrying that label. The header routes sign-in to your organization. If the label changes, copy the command from the dialog again, re-run it, and sign in again.
- If you open the dialog on your organization's own APIANT domain, the download and the server URL in the command use that domain. The server name stays `apiant-ai`.

## Update the skills

Re-run only the download half of the command, then restart Claude Code. The commands below use the `app.apiant.ai` address; if the command from your dialog downloads from another address, use that one.

```bash
$ curl -fsSL 'https://app.apiant.ai/appPlugin/plugin.zip' -o /tmp/a.zip && unzip -oq /tmp/a.zip -d . && rm /tmp/a.zip
```

On Windows, in PowerShell:

```powershell
PS> irm 'https://app.apiant.ai/appPlugin/plugin.zip' -OutFile $env:TEMP\a.zip; Expand-Archive -Force $env:TEMP\a.zip .; del $env:TEMP\a.zip
```

Do not re-run the whole command to update: its `claude mcp remove` step deletes the server registration together with Claude Code's stored sign-in, so you would sign in again.

## Uninstall

1. In Claude Code, run `/mcp`, select `apiant-ai`, and choose **Clear authentication** to remove the stored sign-in.
2. Remove the server registration:

   ```bash
   $ claude mcp remove apiant-ai -s project
   ```

3. Delete the APIANT skill folders from `./.claude/skills/`. If that directory holds no other skills, delete it.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| `claude: command not found` | The Claude Code CLI is not on your `PATH`. Install or locate it, then run the command again. |
| `unzip: command not found` | Install `unzip` with your system's package manager, then run the command again. |
| **Connect to Claude Code** is not in the account menu | The item is hidden while you are acting as another account. Return to your own account. |
| Skills do not load | Start Claude Code from the directory you installed in, and check it is 2.1.157 or later. To restore the skills, re-run the download half. |
| `apiant-ai` shows as pending approval | Run `claude` interactively in the directory and approve it. |
| The server shows as needing authentication | Run `/mcp`, select `apiant-ai`, and authenticate. |
| Sign-in says your account does not have the MCP Tools permission | Ask your account administrator to add **MCP Tools** to your role. |
